Climate Madagascar covers a vast territory and therefore has different microclimates. In most of the country, there are two alternating seasons: the wet season which goes from November to March and the dry season from April to October. On average, maximum temperatures in the dry season range from 30°C in the coastal areas to 25°C in the highlands. The Nosy Be area, and the Mitsio islands in particular, have a much lower humidity and rainfall than the rest of the country.Â
Documents To enter Madagascar, Italian citizens must hold a passport with a residual validity of at least 6 months from their return date. A personal visa is also required, and this is issued at the airport against payment of about 65 e (the exact amount will depend on the fluctuating exchange rate of the Ariary which could be subject to variations at any time). We advise you to prepare in advance the amount to be paid to the authorities.
Currency The local currency is the Ariary (Mga). Exchange rates fluctuate each day, so it is therefore not easy to establish an exact ratio. When this catalogue went into print it was approximately: 1 e = 2500 Mga. We suggest taking Euros. Credit cards are accepted in very few hotels and shops.
Time zone When Italy is on solar time, it is 2 hours ahead of Madagascar. One hour ahead during summer time. However Tsarabanjina has a different time zone for daylight saving puposes: +1 hour compared with the rest of Madagascar.
Vaccinations and health precautions No mandatory vaccinations are requested. Malaria prophylaxis is however strongly recommended and we particularly advise you to take mosquito repellent. As a further precaution, we advise carrying antipyretics and intestinal disinfectants.
